Screens are an essential element in any bathroom, whether they are shower tray screens or bathtub screens. They prevent water from running out of the shower, and that we can have problems with humidity in the bathrooms, and what is worse, the appearance of undesirable fungi in the bathroom.
Screens are comfortable and functional, but they need to be cleaned often and kept dry daily. In this way, we will end the mold or prevent its appearance, and we will also remove the lime and prevent it from accumulating.
In another article we already saw how to clean the exterior and interior windows of a house, now we will focus on cleaning the bathroom screens. To do this, there are several techniques that work very well.
Products to clean the shower screen
To clean the shower screens, we will need several basic elements:
- A brush or a scouring pad.
- Bleach with detergent or ammonia (never mix, because they are incompatible elements that can cause poisoning).
- Hot water.
There are specialists in screen and glass cleaning who recommend simply using neutral soap instead of more aggressive products such as bleach or ammonia. Antiscale products can also be used as accessories, although today there are many screens that are already manufactured with an antiscale treatment, which allows the drops to leave no marks on the glass.
To clean the bathtub screens we will need the same products, only that their cleaning will be somewhat more uncomfortable to clean the screen inside, paying special attention to the silicone of the screen joints, which is very susceptible to localized humidity, and that fungi may appear.
How to clean the screen
Plastic partitions tend to get dirty faster than glass partitions, and it is very effective to clean them with a mixture of ammonia, alcohol and water. We mix the three elements well, and we introduce them in a spray, spraying the surface of the screen and the lower and upper rails well. Afterward, we wipe with a damp cloth to clean it, and a dry cloth to dry the screen well. With the damp cloth we can clean the silicone from the rails, to prevent fungi from appearing.
Glass partitions can be kept in better conditions, especially if they have anti-scale products incorporated, which repel drops from the shower. Although there are good cleaning products (ammonia, detergent bleach, or a mild soap), vinegar is a powerful cleaner and natural disinfectant. In addition, it does not deteriorate the elements of the bathroom. We can use it by dissolving it in very hot water, we apply it on the screen (in spray or directly with a jet) and let it act for about 10 minutes.
Afterward, we will wipe with a damp cloth to clean it well, and the stains will disappear quickly and effectively. The glass of the screen can be reviewed with a clean and dry cloth, to make it brighter. If we find vinegar-resistant lime stains, we can mix hot water with vinegar and baking soda. We apply the mixture to the screen, and leave it to act for at least 20 minutes, to remove the mixture with a damp cloth. Then we can wipe with a dry cloth to finish cleaning the screen.
Another homemade product that is very effective is lemon juice, we can add two tablespoons of baking soda to a mixture of vinegar and hot water, and apply directly on the screen. Cleaning results with immediate. Then we will pass a dry and clean cloth, and the screen will be shinier.
Tips to keep the screens clean longer
The glass and plastic screens are easily soiled by the constant and daily dripping of water from the shower. It is recommended to dry them daily after the shower, so that they stay clean for longer.
We can use a dry cloth to clean the drops, but it is much more comfortable to use a rubber spatula than those used to clean glasses regularly. If we do it after each shower, there will be no traces of soap and water, and the screen will stay clean longer.
If we also sprinkle with lemon juice every two or three days, we will prevent bacteria from appearing. Another problem is mold. It is advisable that the screens are not damp, and in addition to cleaning and drying them, we must keep the bathroom ventilated after using the shower, so that the humidity does not accumulate and mold can appear, which is the most difficult thing to remove. To prevent mold from forming in the bathtub or in the shower, we share an article on how to remove mold and prevent it from appearing.
On the other hand, we must remember that by doing daily maintenance where we dry the screen after each shower, we will keep it clean for longer.
In addition, ventilating the bathroom is essential to avoid sources of humidity, especially in the shower. We can also take advantage of and clean with a damp cloth the silicone joints, in which fungi can also appear, after the shower, to prevent their appearance.
